Orpheus in the Underworld
Southgate Opera presents
Orpheus in the Underworld
Offenbach’s comic operetta Orpheus in the Underworld is a skit on the classical legend with a plethora of colourful characters and, of course, includes the famous can-can.
Orpheus and Euridice instead of being devoted lovers are bored with each other and each has a lover on the side. Euridice finds that hers is Pluto, God of the Underworld, and goes off to Hades with him willingly, is bored there, and allows herself to be courted by others. Orpheus would be happy to see the last of her, but a character called Public Opinion forces him to complain to the gods who allow him to journey to the Underworld to seek Euridice’s return. Will he succeed? Will there be a happy ending?

It’s good to be back - no it’s GREAT to be back. The Warren cannot wait to entertain you all again with their colourful and magical story of The Wizard of Oz - brought to life in their wonderful pantomime. Cheer for Dorothy and her three loyal companions - Scarecrow, Tinman and Lion - not forgetting the adorable Toto of course! Boo at the nasty Wicked Witch of the West as the beautiful Glinda tries to stop her stealing the infamous Ruby Slippers. And laugh at Salt & Pepper - the silly flying monkeys. There’s something for everyone in the Land of Oz - so hold on tight - there’s a tornado coming to whisk you there right now!
We very much hope to see you at our Wizard of Oz panto, but if you test positive for Covid and are unable to attend we would like to offer to transfer your tickets to our 2023 pantomime rather than a production by another company - the Warren donates all its profits to local charities and this will help us to keep supporting them during these difficult times. Thank you for your understanding.

One of the most enduring and exuberant shows of all time, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat is set, according to Tim Rice’s playful lyrics, “way, way back many centuries ago, not long after the Bible began”.
This all singing, all dancing extravaganza follows the story of Jacob’s favourite son Joseph. After being sold into slavery by his brothers, Joseph meets the Egyptian noble Potiphar, but ends up in jail after refusing the advances of Potiphar’s wife. While imprisoned, Joseph discovers his ability to interpret dreams and soon finds himself in front of the mighty Pharaoh. Joseph’s solution to Egypt’s famine elevates him to Pharaoh’s right-hand man and reunites him with his family.
Combining country and western, ballads and calypso with Elvis-style rock, the show includes songs that have become unforgettable pop and musical theatre standards, including Any Dream Will Do, Close Every Door To Me, Jacob and Sons, There’s One More Angel in Heaven and Go, Go, Go Joseph.
Green Room promises you hilarity and heartfelt emotion in this colourful explosion of pure joy and comic delights.

Following the huge success of our production of 'My Fair Lady' in October 2021, ELODS are excited to bring you 'Curtains' in 2022.
This comedy whodunit is a 'musical within a musical' and a wickedly funny send-up of backstage murder mysteries. Set in 1959 Boston, Massachusetts, it follows the mayhem when one of the stars of a new show is murdered on opening night and it is left solely to Lieutenant Frank Cioffi, a detective (and huge musical theatre fan) to solve the case, save the show, and maybe even find love along the way!
Written by Kander & Ebb, the legendary team that wrote the Broadway smashes 'Cabaret' & 'Chicago'. We think you'll love this unusual comedy gem!
The death of a much loved husband prompts a group of ordinary women in a small Yorkshire village Women’s Institute to do an extraordinary thing. Instead of the normal Jam Making and raffles, they decide to create an artistic nude calendar to raise money for a sofa at the hospital. But doing something different has emotional and personal ramifications for all of them.
The true story of the Calendar Girls launched a global phenomenon, a million copycat calendars, a record-breaking movie, stage play and now this musical written by Tim Firth and Gary Barlow.
This fabulous and funny musical with unforgettable songs and powerful story will leave your heart soaring. Ok, so you may have a tear or two, but you will have a "bloody good laff".
£1 from each ticket sold will be donated to Blood Cancer UK in honour of the original Calendar Girls and of course John Baker, whose story inspired this wonderful piece of theatre.
