To hear David Starkey live is thrilling. Respected lecturer
and debater; contributor to Radio 4’s Moral Maze; a controversial contributor to Question Time; and the creator and presenter of many popular historical TV series.

There are few more stimulating thinkers, and few who understand better the way the most powerful have thought throughtout our history.

Are We Human or Are We Dancers?
Are We Human or Are We Dancers?
Dance is used in most cultures as a form of expression, social activity and exercise for spiritual and performance reasons. It is a worldwide nonverbal form of communication between humans.

Most humans dance in one form or another at some point in their life wherever in the world they live and whatever their culture. This is where we have taken our inspiration from for our 2014 show which asks the question….. "Are we human or are we dancers?"

The show will be based on The Highstone Dance Academy’s  interpretation of some of the hundreds of dance styles that are performed around the world everyday.

Please note, child tickets are for under 16 years and please call the box office 01707 645005 for information regarding Babe in Arms.

Manon Lescaut - Live Screening
Recorded live from the Royal Opera House.  This early Puccini masterpiece makes a welcome return to Covent Garden after an
absence of over 20 years, in a new production by Jonathan Kent under the baton of Music Director Antonio Pappano. The exciting Latvian Soprano Kristine Opolais sings the titlerole. a consummate Puccini Soprano, Opolais caused a sensation as Madama Butterfly in 2011, and with Manon Lescaut, the bold but impressionable heroine, we will see a very different side of her character. She is matched in star power by Jonas Kaufmann as her lover, Des Grieux, and Christopher Maltman as her cynical brother Lescaut.

This is a much anticipated new production, and Kent’s vision of a young girl who faces temptation in the big city will surely resonate with today's audience.

Macbeth
Macbeth
William Shakespeare's Macbeth is the original` Game of Thrones` a disturbing tale of treachery and murder set in the savage landscape of medieval Scotland. With its compelling mixture of historical fact and supernatural invention, the play is an incisive psychological study on the corrosive effects of mad ambition.

Harry Meacher plays the eponymous role, and Judi Bowker is Lady Macbeth in Traffic of the Stage’s atmospheric production which focuses on the raw and
earthy emotions of those living in dangerous times.

Mark Steel
Mark Steel

Based on the Radio 4 series in which he writes a show centred on each town, this is a sparkling verdict on humanity that he’s mocked them all and somehow is still alive!  There will be pictures, and ranting, some people will call things out, and you’ll be a far better audience than the miserable arses from down the road.

As well as Mark Steel’s In Town, Mark has presented the BAFTA nominated Mark Steel Lectures for BBC2, is a regular on BBC One’s Have I Got News For You and Radio 4’s Newsquiz.  He’s also appeared on BBC2’s QI and Room 101. He’s written several, acclaimed books, including: Reasons To Be Cheerful and What’s Going On and he writes a weekly column for The Independent.

Michael Portillo
Michael Portillo

It took Michael Portillo little more than 10 years to get a seat in The Commons and then rise in power and esteem to a point where he was a favoured leader of his party and possible future PM.

A track record like that suggests to many a privileged friend of the rich and famous with little or no understanding of or care for the ordinary citizen. But since leaving the house almost a decade ago Michael has endeared himself to many with  his obvious respect for solid workmanship like our great Victorian Railways  and his obvious care for the underprivileged (Michael becomes a Single Mum 2003)and the troubled (Death of a school friend 2002) . Listen to his extraordinary story and then feel free to question him about it.
